Empower your teen to improve relationships with family & peers
Today’s teens are under more pressure than ever.
As a parent or caregiver, it’s hard to see your teen struggle, especially when they seem withdrawn, on edge, or not quite themselves. Between school demands, social media, identity exploration, and an unpredictable world, it’s easy for them to feel lost, anxious, or overwhelmed. And when you’re unsure how to support them, it can feel overwhelming for you, too.
At Psychology For Life, we provide a safe, supportive environment to help your teen feel more grounded, confident, and in control. Teen therapy is available in Barrie, Bracebridge, and online across Ontario.

WHAT IS TEEN THERAPY?
Teen Therapy offers a space where young people can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgement. It’s more than just talking. It’s about building trust, teaching skills, and helping teens understand themselves.
At Psychology For Life, we offer youth therapy that meets teens where they are. We support everything from emotional overwhelm and teen anxiety to academic stress, peer conflict, and identity exploration. Whether your teen needs practical tools, a space to talk things through, to develop insights into his/her behaviour, or help making sense of who they are, we’re here to support them.
Our approach is grounded in evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-Based Therapy. These approaches are tailored to the individual needs of each teen, ensuring they feel supported, respected, and seen.

HOW TEEN THERAPY CAN HELP
Teens go through a lot: big feelings, tough choices, pressure from every direction. Sometimes it’s hard for them to talk about what’s going on, and even harder to figure it out on their own. Teen therapy gives them a space to sort through it all, with someone who gets it.

Anxiety & Panic
We help teens identify the sources of their anxiety and develop calming strategies they can use in school, at home, and in social settings. Through mindfulness and CBT-based tools, we empower them to feel more in control.

Depression
Persistent sadness, isolation, or low motivation can be hard to witness in your teen. Teen therapy offers space to explore these feelings, challenge negative thinking, and build a sense of purpose and hope.

Emotional Regulation
For teens who feel overwhelmed by emotions like anger or frustration, we teach self-awareness and emotion regulation skills to help them respond in a healthy way, not react, strengthening relationships and self-esteem.

Gender Identity & Self-Image
We offer affirming, respectful support for teens navigating gender identity, gender dysphoria, or struggles with self-image. Youth therapy provides a safe place for teens to explore who they are and feel empowered to express themselves.

Peer Conflict & Communication
From bullying and friendship challenges, to trouble speaking up, we help kids and teens develop strong communication skills and set healthy boundaries, both of which are key foundations for meaningful relationships and lasting self-confidence.

Burnout & School Stress
We support teens in identifying what’s draining them, helping them find balance between academics, extracurriculars, and personal time so they can succeed without burning out.

ADHD & Executive Functioning
For youth with focus, planning, or organization challenges, we help build strategies that make life more manageable, both in and out of the classroom.

Our Approach
HOW TEEN THERAPY WORKS AT PSYCHOLOGY FOR LIFE
We begin with a conversation with you, the parent or caregiver, to better understand your teen’s or pre-teen’s history, challenges, and goals. We also meet with them individually, creating a safe space where they can open up and feel heard and understood.
Every teen is different. We collaborate with both you and your teen to create a plan that aligns with their needs and your concerns, always keeping communication open.

QUESTIONS ABOUT TEEN THERAPY
If you don’t see the answer to your question here, click the button below to see more FAQs or contact us, and we’ll be happy to assist you or provide the information you need.
What are the signs that a youth would benefit from therapy?
Some signs that a child or teen might benefit from therapy include noticeable changes in behaviour, like increased irritability, withdrawing from family and friends, shifts in academic performance, school attendance issues, trouble sleeping, excessive worrying, or self-harming behaviours. You might also notice difficulty concentrating, mood swings, ongoing sadness or hopelessness, social struggles, or even physical symptoms like headaches or stomach aches. These changes can point to emotional or mental health challenges that could be supported through therapy.
How do I know if my child is ready for therapy?
A young person may be ready for youth therapy if they’re having a hard time managing emotions, coping with stress, or facing challenges at school, with friends, or after a big life change or trauma. While it helps if they’re open to the idea of therapy, it’s also okay if they’re unsure at first. A skilled teen therapist will work to build trust and help them feel safe and understood throughout the process.
How long will my teen need therapy?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Therapy length depends on your teen’s needs and what they’re working through. Some youth may benefit from just a few teen therapy sessions focused on coping strategies, while others may need longer-term support to work through deeper emotional or behavioural concerns. Some connect quickly; others take time to build trust. The therapist will create a plan based on your teen’s goals and adjust it over time as progress is made.
